The short version

A considered choice.
A clear reason.

Our featured option for buyers replacing a sump setup with a primary-plus-backup combination. Its appeal is the paired system; correct sizing, battery selection, installation, and routine checks still determine whether it fits your basement.

How we choose →
01

A second source of power

The combination includes a 1/2 HP primary pump and a 12-volt backup system.

02

A coordinated starting point

A preassembled combination can simplify product selection compared with choosing two unrelated pumps.

03

Look beyond horsepower

Discharge height and pipe routing affect actual flow. Compare performance at your installation’s head, not only the maximum headline rate.

Find your fit

Right for your home?

A good recommendation includes the reasons to choose something else.

Try the planning tool ↓

A good fit when…

  • You want a primary pump and a battery-backup system together.
  • Your basin has room for the complete assembly and float movement.
  • You will maintain the battery and test both pumps regularly.

Keep in mind

  • Backup runtime depends on the battery, inflow, lift, and duty cycle.
  • A pump system cannot guarantee a flood-free basement.
  • Confirm battery, check valve, and installation parts in the exact seller bundle.

One shortlist. Three routes.

Compare before you commit.

02 / The alternative

  • 1/3 HP primary
  • Primary + battery backup
  • Dual float switches

Check the installed-head flow requirement. A lower horsepower label alone does not establish fit.

03 / The alternative

Watchdog Big Combo CONNECT

The CITS-50 pairs a 1/2 HP primary pump with backup. An additional Wi-Fi module can provide remote notifications.

  • 1/2 HP primary

Remote alerts require additional equipment. Confirm module compatibility and connectivity requirements.

A practical starting point

Is your installation ready?

Use this checklist before ordering. Completing it helps you prepare; it does not certify that a pump is correctly sized.

Before you decide

A few good
questions.

The details that matter before the buy button.

Is a backup pump the same as a battery for my main pump?

No. This combination has a primary pump and a separate backup pump system. Confirm how the backup operates and the required battery type in the model’s manual.

How long will the backup run?

There is no single runtime for every basement. Battery capacity, condition, pump cycling, water inflow, and lift all matter. Use the manufacturer’s battery guidance and an installer’s assessment.

Is the battery included?

Check the specific Amazon offer before purchasing. Do not assume that a primary/backup combination includes the battery or all plumbing parts.

Can I choose it by horsepower alone?

No. Compare the pump curve at your total discharge head, the basin dimensions, and the float clearances. Maximum flow at zero lift does not describe every installation.
